Pediatric wheelchair assembly manual
Co-creation / Industrial Design

The Transitions Foundation (www.transitionsfoundation.org) wheelchairrepair and
construction workshop, is part of an integral vocational training program in rural
Guatemala, set out to provide skills and training to disadvantaged , disabled
individuals who enjoy manual labor.

The wheelchair designs, however, may prove to be technically challenging for individuals with little or no technical training. Reading technical drawings, specifications and tolerances make the learning curve for construction extremely steep.

Upon completion of the pediatric wheelchair model, the designer realized the need for a companion training product, that would guide people with a moderate education level through the assembly process of the wheelchair.
The basic assembly manual (manual de ensamblaje básico) is designed to be read alongside the technical drawings / blueprints, and to provide alogical, extremely graphical, step-by-step guide for construction.

Using a basic color set, and assembly lines much like the ones found in construction toy manuals, this document makes the process friendly and accessible, and proves to be an effective prep tool to be
followed by one-on-one hands-on training,
