Michelin Maglev
Transportation Design

This concept was a quick-fire exercise created for the 2011 Michelin Design Challenge.
The competition´s focus was to create a vehicle concept for the year 2021. It should
serve the transportation needs of a society with growing environmental concerns (traditional
pollution, noise pollution, street congestion).

The Maglev concept was created in under 24 hours, from conception to drawings/renderings.
It utilizes lightweight structural components, with an aluminium underframe, covered with
composite flairings. Structurally it is much like a bicycle. It uses low-rolling resistance tyres.

The technology conceived for this vehicle is inspired by the magnetic levitation (MagLev)
Trains currently being produced. Its wheels are held floating by electro-magnetic force. This
allows for each wheel to become an independent motor, brake, and a frictionless suspension
component.
